let the game begin....

Angels and Games

Women SPORTS!! The games which flash in our minds when we hear those word are tennis, badminton, swimming, volleyball (especially the beach game)… but rarely does cricket come into our note. Wonder why is it so even in India, where cricket comes almost next or say on par with the Bollywood.(which happens to be the most popular source of entertainment and an integral part of many Indians’ life) I just speculate if the popularity acquired by these games is directly related with the glamour in the game..Or say it’s inversely related to the length of the sports wear these ladies put on! ;)

Anyways we are more interested in the game rather than its esteem! :D

Recently there was a sports meet at our college and various games were played. The most interesting being cricket especially the girls cricket. In fact it was me who added that stirring factor to that game by joining the team! ;) hehe

We were intended to play against our immediate senior batch girls. Two days (just some 6hrs to be precise) was all the time we had for our preparation. And this practice session turned out to be more fun than the real match which was played.

Cricket.. all that we knew about this game was through the idiot box...and all that we ever played was galli cricket (in my case its terrace cricket). We had no hopes of putting a good show on the match day. It isn’t that our seniors were any professional players, but they had already played more matches of cricket than we did, so even at sports they turned out to show their precedence!

We didn’t lose our hope though and got onto the field for practice. And as they say good things happen to virtuous people, few “ANGELS” descended to guide us through this crisis. Oh my GOD!! What angels were they! :p (guys of my own class) I actually thought that these angels came up to assist on their own, but I was later informed that it was arrangement made by someone among girls.

Scores of techniques, many tricks and clear idea about everything related with the game, we girls were enthralled by seeing the forte of our angels. Just then it occurred to me that if they actually knew the game so well why isn’t that even a single cricket tournament won by our batch till date???

One very small angel popped in from neighborhood to give us some extra guidance. It’s the love for the game that matters; age has nothing to do with it. That may be the reason why Tendulkar started crafting history from a very young age.

I could also manage to get few kewl cricket funda and tricks through sms from another obliging angel who also happens to be a cricket freak.

Few of these angels reminded me of John Wright, Greg Chappell, John Buchanan… for reasons unknown! :p

By the way these angels did have few things to feel good about after all the pains they took to make us learn that game. They got enough time to show off their so called sports flair in front of few popular chicks of the class, who were a part of the team. But as I said we did not know much about the game called “CRICKET”, we were very well aware of the other games they were trying to play. So at the end these angels couldn’t actually make much use of the opportunity they got. We could make the most of it though! ;)

The game was played; we lost the match just by a slim margin. But we had great time. And we really loved the spirit of the game. Next time we are confident to spring back with more enthusiasm and dexterity .Hopefully taking few of the tournaments to our acclaim.

[P.S. Women did make some hype even in cricket in recent times. Only difference being that it wasn’t as the players but as the cheering gang!]
